Linus Gitahi: Born Runner

Even a CEO of a large company, such as Nation Media Group, needs time to get away from the grind, and if you are Kenyan, one way to do that just might be through running.

Linus Gitahi is a man who is fitting of such a description. Once head of African marketing with global pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKlinea, Gitahi has utilized his skill set for NMG, Africa's largest media group.

Yet while he is a passionate man of business, he is even more so simply passionate. Proud of his Kenyan heritage, Linus Gitahi is an avid runner like many of his talented countrymen. He is also a firm believer that Kenyans are able-bodied runners not just because of diet and training but because of developed genes that facilitate easier running than other races/ethnicities.

Proven by a number of successful research probes, Kenyans are thought to have superior genes for running due to their lineage of runners because of a history of a nomadic lifestyle and needed ability to be able to keep up with their herds. Faster runners enabled larger herds, which further enabled a better quality of life and prolonged health. These genes would then be passed on to the next generation.

The ability to run and run well is something that Linus Gitahi and all the Kenyan people are extremely proud of, and all the success that this natural ability has brought with it, particularly in the Olympics and world-record breaking, only further extends the humble pride of all of Kenya and its people.
